Cinematic Storyboarding

Cinematic Storyboarding is for artists looking to strengthen their boarding skills and get a better understanding of how the process works in actual television/film production. Attendees who complete the course will gain the skills needed to competently work as a board artist in the industry.

The course will be offered in person, with access to all the tools and materials of the trade, including Storyboard Pro, and Cintiq workstations. It will be taught by an industry professional with over a decade of experience in storyboarding and art direction, most recently Archer.

Course Note: This course is designed for artists who already have skill sets in drawing fundamentals (constructive figure drawing, perspective drawing, composition, etc.) and are familiar with working digitally. A basic understanding of Storyboard Pro is highly encouraged for this course. Evidence of digital drawing ability is required before acceptance into the course; if interested in this course, email your drawing sample to professionaleducation@trilithinstitute.org.

Please note: students do have graded assignments, assessments, and projects and will receive a final grade in this course. Grades demonstrate a student’s ability to apply their understanding and mastery of concepts taught in this course. Trilith Institute instructors have a wealth of knowledge as they come with expertise in the film and entertainment industry

Meet the Course Creator: Justin Wagner

With over twelve years experience in the animation industry. He graduated from the Savannah College ofArt and Design in 2008 with an MFA in Sequential Art.  After working as an illustrator and comic book artist for several years after graduation, Justin found his home in animation at Floyd County Productions.  More specifically, he has worked on FXX’s animated program Archer for over a decade.  Hired as a storyboard revisionist, he quickly developed a skillset that allowed him to rise to the level of storyboard artist, then lead storyboard artist, and ultimately landing in the role of art director/producer on the series.  These roles have developed Justin into a visual storyteller who understands the perspective of the board artist, but also the goal of an animation production as a whole: to thrill audiences through supporting the script as best as possible.

He lives in the Atlanta area and when he isn’t glued to a Cintiq, he’s enjoying the company of Artie, his King Charles spaniel who needs constant attention.
