Frequently Asked Questions

General

  • What is the Trilith Institute?
    • The Trilith Institute is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the discovery, development, and professional advancement of storytellers who inspire the world.
  • How do Trilith Institute, Foundation, Town, and Studios differ?
    • While we all have the same mission – set the stage and enrich the lives of the story makers who inspire the world, we each play a different role. We at the institute focus on trying to bridge the gap for up-and-coming creatives trying to break into the above-the-line roles in the entertainment industry. We do this by providing professional education, created and led by current industry professionals, as well as by providing creative opportunities such as our Emerging Creative Residency and Creative Excellence Fellowship Grant.

Youth Programs – Summer Camp

  • Unsure of which Trilith Institute camp offering is right for you?
  • What will campers create during the camps?
    • Throughout the Script to Screen Summer Camp Series, campers will work together to produce several short films:
      • Animation Camps – Campers in all three of the Animation Camps will be collaborating with one another to create a single animated short across the three camps, with each camp focusing on one phase of the animation process. By the end of the third Animation camp, each student will have played a key role in creating the animated short that will be screened at the film festival showcase on Saturday, July 26.
      • Directing Camp – Campers in the Directing Camp will work on several small projects throughout the week to build their directing skills. The campers will take turns in the directing role while their peers participate as actors and in miscellaneous crew roles. Every camper will have an opportunity to direct. The footage from the Directing camp projects will be edited together by campers in the Post-Production camps later in the summer, and those completed projects will be screened at the film festival
      • Writing and Production Camps – Each of the two-week Writing and Production Camps will have campers go through the screenwriting, pre-production, and production processes for a live-action short film. The footage from each of these projects will be edited together by campers in the Post-Production camps later in the summer, and those completed projects will be screened at the film festival showcase on Saturday, July 26.
        • The campers in the Dramatic Writing and Art Production Camp will learn all about the roles and responsibilities of the art department on a film project, taking on those jobs in production. Campers who sign up for the Dramatic Writing and Tech Production Camp will learn how to safely and effectively use various filmmaking equipment, operating it themselves during the production of the short films they produce. Before going into production, the Art and Tech campers will collaborate with one another during the first week of camp to write the two screenplays that they will produce together the following week.
        • In the Comedic Writing and Production Camp, all campers will learn about both the technical equipment and the art department roles, taking turns with each throughout the production of their short films. Like the Dramatic Writing and Production Camps, the campers will collaborate with one another to write two short films in the first week of camp, producing them in the second week.
      • Post-Production Camps – Campers who attend the Post-Production camps will take the footage filmed in the high school Writing and Production camps and edit the scenes together, completing the final phase of filmmaking. Each of these final cuts will be screened at the film festival showcase on Saturday, July 26.
      • Episodic Screenwriting Camp – In this two-week camp, campers will collaborate with one another to create an original 30-minute TV show. Campers will split into groups, with each group writing an episode of the show. The Pilot episode will be performed at a live table read during the film festival showcase on Saturday, July 26.

  • What’s the difference between Animation 1, 2, and 3 camps?
