Georgia Filmmaking Pitch Workshop

Ty Johnston-Chavis, an international luminary in television and film production, who has set the gold standard for excellence throughout her decades-long career in the entertainment industry. Ty not only produces unforgettable stories but also champions diversity and inclusion, creating opportunities for underrepresented voices.

As the founder of The Atlanta Pitch Summit established in 2011, Ty provides a premier platform for content creators to pitch their ideas to industry giants like Lifetime, MGM, Harpo Films, Nickelodeon, BET, and FOX. Her influence extends beyond the screen, as she works alongside industry veterans and mentors the next generation of filmmakers.

Ty has shared her expertise as a professor at American Intercontinental University and The Art Institutes. Her debut book, “To Pitch or Not to Pitch,” soared to Amazon’s top 100 bestsellers, guiding content creators through the pitching process. Her sophomore release, “Give Me The Greenlight,” serves as a mentor for independent filmmakers. Ty is gearing up to release her third book on Producing, which joins her Independent Filmmaker Book Collection. Concurrently, she is preparing to launch The Producers Academy, a dynamic institution hub tailored for TV & Film Producers.

With her recent directorial debut in the thriller feature “A Taste of Betrayal,” Ty continues to expand her repertoire. Her upcoming films for 2024, including “Scheme Queens 2, “The Match” (August, ALLBLK), and “Style Me for Christmas” (November, BET), showcase her versatility and creativity. A member of the Producers Guild of America and a UCLA Professional Producing Program graduate, Ty holds an MFA in digital filmmaking from Anaheim University. Married with four children, she and her husband also own and operate acclaimed restaurant locations in Atlanta, Georgia.

WIFTA Filmmaking Pitch

Schedule:

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Registration and Morning Mingle (Breakfast Bites)

  • Participants arrive, register, and enjoy a social morning andwelcome speech by the organizer

9:30 AM – 11:00 AM Foundations of Pitching Creating pitch materials

  • What elements to include? How to make a compelling pitch deck? What materials do you need to have ready (treatment, synopsis, log-line, etc.)?

11:00 AM – 11:30 AM: Break

  • Participants should use this time to make adjustments to their existing pitch materials and pair up with other participants to practice their 5-minute pitch

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Continuation of Scriptwriting

  • Film & Television Business Basics (How to get a meeting. Basics of deal structures. When to engage an entertainment lawyer, etc.)

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Lunch Break

1:30 PM – 3:30 PM: 1-on-1 practice pitches

  • In this segment, participants will be allotted 15 minutes each with an industry professional. During that time, the participant should do a 5-minute pitch and then have 10 minutes with the Industry professional for personalized feedback and questions.

3:30 – 4:00 pm: Closing Remarks, Final Questions & Farewell
