DESCRIPTION:When: Tuesdays from 5:30-8:30 PM\, September 1\, 2026 – November 17\, 2026 \nAlfred Hitchcock said you need three things to make a film: a script\, a script\, and a script. Many professional creatives also subscribe to the philosophy that you can make a bad movie from a good script\, but you can’t make a good movie from a bad script. \nThe objective of this class is to acquaint you with the fundamentals and foundational techniques of screenwriting\, with an emphasis on three-act structure and characterization. Each student will complete a narrative outline and a script for a short film. Students will learn about professional standards and best industry practices through table readings\, one-on-one conferences\, and peer revision techniques. \nThis class is perfect for aspiring screenwriters\, storytellers\, and anyone with a passion for crafting compelling narratives. Whether you are a novice writer eager to explore the world of screenwriting or a seasoned writer looking to refine your skills\, this course is designed to provide a solid foundation in the fundamentals of storytelling\, structure\, and character development. Consider taking Introduction to Costumes! \nDeveloped by longtime costumer Hollis Smith\, whose credits include WandaVision\, The Walking Dead\, and Ms. Marvel\, and taught by Mia Nunnally whose credits include Ozark\, Stranger Things\, and Captain America: Civil War\, students will walk away prepared for entry-level work in the costume department. \nStudents will learn about Hollywood costume history and iconic industry designers; the costume office organizational structure; job roles and duties in various areas of the Costume Department; and the names\, uses\, and protocols related to various pieces of departmental equipment and tasks. Students will also learn how costumes and various film crafts relate to one another on a working production\, as well as how and why they all must operate in sync. Beginning with a script breakdown in pre-production\, you’ll learn to identify continuity challenges\, annotate shooting scripts and storyboards\, and develop the detailed reports that guide cast\, crew\, and editors through every scene. \nThrough a balanced mix of lectures\, film-clip analysis\, and practical exercises\, you’ll master on-set best practices—covering actor blocking\, camera setups\, wardrobe changes\, props tracking\, and coverage logging—while honing your ability to anticipate and solve problems before they disrupt the shoot. By the end\, you’ll know how the script supervisor acts as the director’s right hand\, the editor’s best friend\, and the production’s continuity guardian\, transforming potential chaos into seamless cinematic storytelling. \nThroughout this course\, you will: \n\nDevelop a meticulous eye for detail\, learning to track and maintain continuity across dialogue\, action\, wardrobe\, props\, and more.\nMaster industry-standard paperwork and digital tools\, including creating lined scripts\, daily progress reports\, and editor’s logs.
